Diaper Pail For Cloth Diapers - Wet or Dry

If you have decided to use cloth diapers for your baby, then chances are you are going to need a diaper pail. When choosing a diaper pail for cloth diapers, there are basically two different options. There is the wet pail, or the dry pail. Naturally you will choose which option works best for you, and your family. Here, I will tell you the difference between the too, and offer some suggestions and solutions for making your diapering experience as easy as possible.

The wet diaper pail for cloth diapers and is basically a lit container that is waterproof. Be sure that the lid to your container seals tight as it can be very dangerous if a young child opens the lid and could possibly drown! You will NOT need any type of nylon liner when using a wet pail. Just fill up your diaper pail about one fourth of the way with water and add some of your favorite stain removers to help pre-treat your cloth diapers. Here are a few that we suggest using.

cup of vinegar. This is great for neutralizing odor, and is completely safe for your baby. Also it's very inexpensive.
cup of baking soda. Also good for neutralizing odor, and also a very natural and inexpensive choice.
 cup of Borax.

Just be sure not to add bleach or laundry detergent as this will eat away at the cloth of your diapers, making them less absorbent and prone to tears and rips. To eliminate odors from your diaper pail for cloth diapers, be sure to change the water daily. This will also result in cleaner diapers. To be sure that your wet pail system doesn't become too heavy for you to lift, and change the water, do not get a pail that is too large. Remember water can be very heavy.

The other option you have for a diaper pail for cloth diapers is the dry pail. All you need is any pail, or container with a lid. You can purchase these from almost anywhere and the trash cans with lids work great. The larger pail you chose, the more diapers it can hold, and the less often you may have to wash diapers. Just remember it is NOT recommended to keep soiled diapers for more than two days.

It is always great to get a nylon tote to put in the inside of your dry pail. Nylon is great because it is washable, water resistant and reusable. Another option is plastic bags, but it is not recommended to reuse theses in your diaper pail for cloth diapers.

A dry diaper pail is more likely to collect odors, but there are lots of ways to help eliminate odors.

Fabric softener sheets. Just pick out your favorite ones, and put a fresh sheet in the bottom of the pail.
Baking soda. Sprinkle a little bit into the bottom of your pail. This will absorb any wetness and odors coming from your pail.
Or just be sure to rinse your diapers thoroughly.

Now you are ready to choose which option of diaper pail for cloth diapers is best for you, and you are ready to go.
